About the Workshop…
This workshop explores the current research on the rising rates of youth suicide in the United States and the risk factors associated with suicidal behavior in youth, particularly children exposed to trauma, in foster care, receiving mental health treatment, or who identify as LGBTQ+. Participants will learn the role that caregivers, agencies, schools, and communities play in preventing suicide through implementation of a systems approach and the recommended response when dealing with the aftermath of a suicide completion. Guidelines that distinguish between self-injurious behavior and suicidal behavior will also be provided.
Participants will be able to…
· Describe the myths and facts associated with youth suicide.
· Assess the factors that increase risk for suicidal behaviors in all youth.
