2025 Tested Us

But.....we still had numerous accomplishments and I am proud of CONCERN's team!

It was a challenging year for CONCERN - Professional Services for Children, Youth and Families and, honestly, for most nonprofits. Between state and federal budget shutdowns, Medicaid changes, policy shifts, implementation of a new EHR, and rising insurance costs, there were moments when the headwinds felt constant.

And still, I am incredibly proud of what our team accomplished.

One highlight was launching our National Training and Development Curriculum for foster and adoptive parents, led by Brian Brunsell and an exceptional team. The vision was straightforward: equip families with meaningful, high-quality training so children receive the care, stability, and understanding they deserve.

From specialized topics like the Indian Child Welfare Act to LGBTQ+ issues, we are raising the standard of preparation and support for caregivers. The early feedback from foster parents has been encouraging and energizing.

What stands out most to me is not just what we built, but how we showed up. Our team stayed steady. They kept their focus on children and families. Because of them, CONCERN remains strong, healthy, and ready to serve.

I am deeply grateful to our staff, partners, and supporters who stood with us this year. The work continues, and I am hopeful about what we can build together in 2026. - Gordon May, President/CEO
